Handball-BundesligaThe Handball-Bundesliga or HBL, and sometimes also just simply called as Bundesliga, is a top professional German handball league. However, since 2007, it has been sponsored by Toyota and so is also addressed as Toyota Handball-Bundesliga.

Winners of the league are regarded as the German handball champions. And as winners, they can enjoy certain privileges like being qualified for bigger handball leagues or events. For an instance, like the first and second placed teams being qualified for the EHF Champions League and like the third placed team being given the chance to play in the Champions League. Of course, not to forget the fourth and fifth placed teams being qualified for the EHF Cup.

The EHF Champions League is Europe’s finest club handball competition. And the EHF Cup is an official men’s handball clubs competition still of Europe.

But it is not only the top teams of a given season that are typically given a reward like qualification to other handball leagues or events. In fact, the two last placed teams get qualified to the second division the following season, and either in the northern or the southern section. While the sixteenth placed team gets qualified for a home and home expulsion against the winner of the expulsion between the two northern and southern sections’ second placed teams of the second division.
